Credit union pioneer Roy Bergengren created the cooperative organizational concept of the credit union movement. It is a concept that we still use today: The Credit Union System, Members, Credit Unions, Leagues and CUNA working together to further the cause of credit unions, and keep our tremendous spirit of cooperation.
Credit union chapters were an integral part of Bergengren’s original plan. They remain so today. Groups of credit union volunteers and professionals in a particular geographic area join together regularly to share information of a social, educational and political basis.
Your chapter is supported by the Missouri Credit Union Association (League) through annual chapter subsidies and by information/education programs provide by MCUA personnel. Your chapter is, therefore, an extension of MCUA. As a chapter officer, you are an ambassador for the Missouri Credit Union Association. You show your support for the Association in many ways: By communicating important information from MCUA and CUNA at your meetings; by working with Association personnel on various projects; by ensuring that your chapter programs support the goals and objectives set by the League Board of Directors; by promoting those entities that support the Association, including MCUA-endorsed vendors; etc.
Your chapter has a great deal of impact on the success, or lack thereof, of the credit union concept in Missouri. Chapter leaders, like you, have a great deal of impact on the chapter. The responsibilities of being a chapter leader are great. So are the rewards.
All credit unions may attend chapter functions but only League members are permitted to hold office and to vote at chapter elections and on League affairs.
At present there are nine (9) chapters operating in the State of Missouri.
