The REAL Deal
The REAL Deal is a program designed to help credit unions demonstrate their outreach efforts to those outside the credit union movement, including legislators and community leaders. In Missouri, your participation in the "You Make the Difference" advocacy rewards program provides information for the national REAL Deal outreach program through the Missouri Credit Union Association.
Here are the four categories for the REAL Deal:
- REAL Programs - programs that provide financial help to consumers, such as REAL Solutions
- REAL Sources - consumer information, education tools, financial literacy programs and credit counseling
- REAL Community Help - includes the Children's Miracle Network, the National Credit Union Foundation, and national and local charity work
- REAL Partnerships - partnerships with state programs and community development efforts.
REAL Solutions
Approximately 30 million Americans use alternative financial services such as check cashing and payday loans for most, or all, of their financial and credit needs. The REAL (Relevant, Effective, Asset-Building, Loyalty-Producing) Solutions for Low-Wealth Households program helps credit unions reach out to underserved and “unbanked” consumers. The program was piloted by the Filene Research Institute and is now managed by the National Credit Union Foundation.
