Project Zip Code
The Missouri Credit Union Association needs your help!
Credit unions across the country, including Missouri, are facing banker attacks on our tax status. However, lawmakers are less likely to pass legislation that negatively affects credit unions if they realize the strength and size of our membership. This is the kind of information that Project Zip Code provides.
Common Problems Encountered in Running Project Zip Code
What is Project Zip Code?
Project Zip Code is a program that tabulates the zip codes of your members and identifies what federal and state legislative districts they live in. With Project Zip Code, credit unions can show Missouri's elected officials how many credit union members are in their district. Project Zip Code also provides other advantages:
- Your membership potential: Project Zip Code can help credit unions with marketing and expansion. Every credit union can review their membership, determine where members are moving, and plan ahead for these changes - whether it's building a new branch or focusing marketing efforts.
- Privacy protection: Project Zip Code maintains the security and privacy of member data. No names or phone numbers - just the zip codes. While keeping your members valuable information private, this is a safe and secure way to demonstrate the strength and number of our credit union members.
What can your credit union do?
Participate in Project Zip Code Month each October. Even if you have run Project Zip Code before, MCUA needs you to run it again to gather the most up-to-date data. MCUA sends updated Project Zip Code CD-ROMs to member credit unions in September.
If your credit union has its member database in-house, use the CD-ROM to run Project Zip Code. Your database must be in CSV (comma separated value)format.
For credit unions that do not have a database on-site, you will need to contact your data processor. Send them the Project Zip Code disk and ask them to run the program. If they have any questions, have them contact the Public/Legislative Affairs Department. To assist your efforts, MCUA has contacted most data processors and informed them about Project Zip Code.
We need YOUR help. In order to have the most impact, every credit union must participate in Project Zip Code. The information you send will be a valuable resource for Missouri's credit unions. If you have any questions regarding Project Zip Code or need assistance, ask for Amy McLard in the Public/Legislative Affairs Department at (800) 392-3074. Thank you in advance for your participation.
