The current legislative and regulatory environment makes it imperative that Missouri credit unions have a strong Credit Union Defense Fund, Credit Union Political Action Committee, and Credit Union Legislative Action Council. The CUPAC Administrative Fund is another donation option.
The Credit Union Defense Fund is designed to help credit unions respond to banker attacks, including threats on our tax-exempt status. The fund is currently being used to create materials for credit unions to use in educating members on the credit union difference.
CUPAC (the Credit Union Political Action Committee of Missouri) and CULAC (the Credit Union Legislative Action Council) are credit union political action committees. However, each serve different candidates, and who can contribute to each fund is very different.
CUPAC provides campaign contributions to credit union friends in state-level elections here in Missouri (such as governor and state representative). CUPAC can receive funds from individuals, state-chartered credit unions and corporations.
CULAC donates funds to federal candidates (such as Senators Kit Bond and Claire McCaskill and Representatives Ike Skelton and Roy Blunt). CULAC can only accept funds from individuals. You contribute to CULAC when you become a member of Capital Club, or participate in a golf tournament, dress down week or other event.
In order to send your credit union notices of CULAC fundraising events, CUPAC (as an agent of CULAC in Missouri) must have a solicitation agreement for the current year on file. Click here for a solicitation agreement.
NOTE: Even with a signed solicitation agreement, CUPAC/CULAC will not send any event information or fundraising requests to your credit union's board, employees, or members without your prior approval.
The CUPAC Administrative Fund is an option for both state and federally chartered credit unions. The administrative fund pays for political action fund-raising expenses (such as room rental and food) so all funds raised can go to CULAC and CUPAC. Contributions to the administrative fund are not taxed and allow federal credit unions to affect political action on the state level.
Capital Club
Capital Club is the primary Missouri fundraiser for CULAC. Individuals who join Capital Club each year make a donation to CULAC as part of their membership. Individuals who pay with personal checks at CUPAC/CULAC golf tournaments also help meet our contribution goals for CULAC. If you'd like to become a member of the Capital Club, download and fill out an application form.
