More than a dozen credit union leaders from six credit unions visited with Congressman Russ Carnahan (D-District 3) at a fundraiser hosted by Neighbors Credit Union on December 5.
Discussions centered on the credit union member business lending (MBL) legislation, H.R. 1418 – the Small Business Lending Enhancement Act. This legislation would raise the MBL limit from 12.25 to 27.5% of assets. Congressman Carnahan is one of the original cosponsors to H.R. 1418, and has cosponsored credit union legislation increasing the MBL limit each session.
“This is an arbitrary limit that should be changed and you just have to keep sharing your efforts with members of Congress,” encouraged Congressman Carnahan. “It’s important to share stories about the members you help and the demand for business loans that you are seeing at each of your credit unions.”
Congressman Carnahan stated his intent to run for Congress, but he is waiting for the results of a court challenge to the Congressional redistricting maps in Missouri. Due to population shifts tracked in the 2010 Census, Missouri is losing a Congressional seat in 2012. Those who were unable to attend but would still like to contribute, please make checks payable to Russ Carnahan for Congress and send contributions to: Russ Carnahan for Congress.
