The beginning of July marked the start of United Credit Union’s Pack the Bus campaign. The staff of United Credit Union (UCU) hopes to pack a school bus full of non-perishable food items and new school supplies. For those living and working near Mexico, Mo., you might have noticed the bus parked on the lawn of UCU's home office. Items are being collected at all UCU branches until the end of July 2013.
After the drive is over, UCU will donate the supplies to local schools and programs that use them. The food collected will be distributed to area food banks that serve less fortunate families.
“In our community, there is an above average number of kids on free and reduced lunches within the school system, which shows that many people need help,” says Heather DeMint, vice president of Marketing at United Credit Union. “Our community’s food banks are always in need of food, and the local schools’ Buddy Pack programs always welcome assistance.”
Monetary donations are also being collected at all of UCU's six branches.
Kicking off the event on July 11, UCU invited members and nonmembers to stop by and donate at the Mexico location. In exchange for their donation, attendees received a free hot dog, chips and a soda. Attendees also got the chance to dunk volunteers at the dunking booth.
