Flash Mobs Excite During Make the Switch Week
As part of the statewide consumer awareness campaign, the Missouri Credit Union Association (MCUA) supported the Make the Switch Week, a five-day event that ran from October 14-18. It encouraged credit union members to share the credit union difference with their family and friends.
Participating credit unions received Make the Switch Week collateral, such as T-shirts, cutout piggies and trick-or-treat bags. These credit unions were encouraged to use these pieces in photos, messages and contests from their social media channels throughout the week. A webinar was hosted in advance, which provided ideas for what material credit unions could share during this time period.
“Make the Switch Week offered an exciting opportunity for credit unions to really ramp up their messages on social media,” says Nora Holloway, MCUA director of PR and Online Community. “There was a great showing of participation from credit unions and it made a great impact on their community.”
These efforts culminated towards the middle of the week with the Bank On MOre flash mob and International Credit Union Day (October 17). The Bank On MOre flash mobs were performed on the campuses of Mizzou (October 16) and Stephens College (October 21). Credit union volunteers were asked to dance in the performances and also hand out literature and treats featuring the Bank On MOre messaging.
"The routine was a lot of fun," says Jessie Wolken, flash mob participant and Conservation Employees' Credit Union staffer (Jefferson City). "I was shocked at the number of students that stopped to watch the performance. We had a great crowd and a lot of energy!"
The flash mobs were well received at both campuses. Students tweeted about the event, and several were busy filming video of the event from their phones. Final videos of the flash mobs are available on the MCUA YouTube channel.
“The flash mob at speaker circle just made my day,” tweets Jill Murray, student at Mizzou.
Following each surprise event, MCUA employees and credit union volunteers distributed Bank On MOre brochures and candy that were branded with the Bank On MOre hashtag and website.
