Alliance Fights Prostate Cancer in “Movember”

Alliance Credit Union’s (Fenton) male employees grew moustaches to support “Movember,” a charity that invites men across the globe to grow moustaches (or “Mos”) each November while raising funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer. The credit union raised more than $600 for the cause.

“This is a unique way to raise awareness and funds to help fight a cancer that affects so many males across the globe,” said President & CEO Dennis Sommer.  “Movember isn’t as popular in the U.S. as it is in other countries, so we wanted to do our part to bring it to the St. Louis area.”

Rates of prostate cancer in men are comparable to rates of breast cancer in women. One in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime with one new case occurring every 2.7 minutes. Movember aims to forever change the face of men’s health, by raising awareness and funds that will reduce the number of preventable male deaths by cancer.
