TelComm's PSAs Share Safety Tips for Children

TelComm Credit Union (Springfield) provides many services to its community—even helpful safety tips for children. Over the past two years, the credit union has teamed with Safe Kids Springfield to create short, simple public service announcements (PSA) that include advice for parents. Safe Kids Springfield is a member of Safe Kids USA, a nationwide network of organizations working to prevent unintentional childhood injury, the leading cause of death and disability for children ages 1 to 14.

These "Our Children, Our Future" PSAs are promoted on Channel KY3, an NBC affiliate.

“Safe Kids Springfield has been partnering with TelComm Credit Union for over a year now,” says Daphne Greenlee, coordinator for Safe Kids Springfield. “Together, we have been able to reach thousands of parents with valuable safety messages for their families through these primetime commercials. Thanks to their support, we equip parents with the knowledge of preventing unintentional injuries—the leading cause of children’s death in the U.S.”

Recently, Safe Kids discussed the prevalence of sports-related concussions during the fall sporting season, so TelComm chose to focus its fall 2013 tip on this topic. Lori Johnson, TelComm vice president of Marketing, reached out to Grant Wistrom to be the expert in this piece. Wistrom is a former NFL Superbowl Champion who has played for the St. Louis Rams and Seattle Seahawks. He also happens to be from southwest Missouri.

“We thought the concussion prevention tip would carry a lot more weight with parents and children if a real pro athlete conveyed the message,” says Johnson.

Wistrom agreed to participate in the "Our Children, Our Future" piece, which was filmed at a local high school.
