Being money smart pays off…literally. Nikhil Krishmam, of Fenton, Kyle Reading, of O’Fallon, and Chloe Momphard, of Troy, were each presented with a 2014 Money Smart Kid Essay scholarship April 4, 2014.
The winners were announced at the Money Smart Week Kick-Off breakfast. COUNTRY Financial, Metropolitan St. Louis CRA Association, and Vantage Credit Union each sponsored one of three scholarships awarded at the breakfast.
“Vantage has been working for over eighteen years with locals schools and community groups to help youth increase their financial literacy,” said Rachel Parrent, community engagement manager for Vantage Credit Union and Money Smart Kid Essay Committee chair. “This contest allows area students to demonstrate the skills they are learning and offers encouragement to us that this generation will be wiser consumers throughout their lives.”
The Money Smart Kid Essay contest is part of Money Smart Week, a week-long series of free seminars, planned activities, and events aimed at promoting financial education throughout the St. Louis area. The Money Smart Kid Essay contest encourages middle school students to think about fiscal responsibility.
