River Region Credit Union Honored for Partner in Education Efforts
River Region Credit Union (Jefferson City) was selected for the 2014 Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce's Program of Excellence Award. The award recognized River Region for its Partner in Education efforts with Cedar Hill Elementary School.
"We work hard to make sure that our partnership is successful, and this is confirmation that we are doing something right!" says Mandy Essex, branch manager for River Region’s east branch. "Cedar Hill is an amazing partner to work with and it was absolutely our pleasure to be able to accept the award with them.” Essex serves as the school liaison.
Since 2006, River Region has been a Partner in Education providing fun activities, guidance and resources to students on a weekly basis.
Each quarter, River Region hosts a "credit union school house" event. Staffers set up a store of goodies where students can turn in points for fun prizes. Students earn these points by completing weekly worksheets.
Other examples of activities include credit union volunteers reading to classes, providing a Santa in branch for the kids, and working with Cedar Hill Elementary School to raise money for Toys for Tots. Last year, River Region was thrilled to be able to donate $10,000 to aid in the purchase of iPads for the student and staff to utilize.
