Arsenal Promotes 2012 International Year of the Co-op
Arsenal Credit Union got a jump start on promoting 2012 as the International Year of Cooperatives. Ken Moser, vice president of Marketing, wrote a letter to the editor of one of St. Louis’ online news hubs stltoday.com, touting the value coops have on social and economic development.
The United Nations General Assembly declared 2012 the International Year of the Co-op to highlight the contribution cooperatives have had in reducing poverty,
creating jobs and promoting social integration. The theme for the International Year of Cooperatives (IYC) 2012 is “Cooperative Enterprises Build a Better World.”
As cooperatively owned and democratically controlled financial institutions, credit unions worldwide have an unprecedented opportunity to increase public awareness about the movement’s contributions to socio-economic development, promote membership growth and encourage the adoption of policies and legislation that promote long- term growth and stability.
This is a perfect opportunity for credit unions to reach out to other cooperatives in the communities they serve and find ways to partner and support each other. Credit unions offering business services may find this the ideal time to promote those products.
Credit unions wishing to promote IYC and use its logo and slogan, must submit an application for use to the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
