Joplin Metro Credit Union is proud to support higher education. Recently, Joplin Metro awarded two $500 scholarships to winners of its annual essay contest. The essay asked, “How can your credit union help you and others of college age financially prepare for the future?”
After reviewing numerous excellent essay submissions, the winners were selected and honored at the annual meeting on May 22.
This year’s winners of the Lee E. Fritts and George C. Patrick commemorative scholarships are Abby Knewtson and Jayce Hylton. Both recipients are currently college students.
Abby has been attending Crower College. She will attend Missouri Southern State University in the fall majoring in criminal justice.
Jayce, a history major, has been attending Missouri Southern State University in Joplin. He will be studying in Australia this fall in cooperation with Missouri Southern.
“Education is very important to us at Joplin Metro Credit Union," says Cindy Atteberry, president and CEO of Joplin Metro. "We have been able to present these scholarships for the past ten years and will continue with this annual tradition. Because the essay topic involves credit unions, young people have to research credit unions. They learned about credit unions and how the not-for-profit financial institutions can help them throughout their future."
