Credit Unions Make "Top Workplaces" List
Credit unions are not only great places to bank—they’re also wonderful places to work! The St. Louis Post Dispatch recently published this year’s list of “Top Workplaces” in the area, which included 1st Financial Federal Credit Union (Wentzville), Anheuser-Busch Employees’ Credit Union (St. Louis), First Community Credit Union (Chesterfield) and Scott Credit Union (Edwardsville, Ill.).
These organizations were selected based solely on surveys completed by employees. Workplace Dynamics, LLP, a leading research firm on organizational health and employee management conducted the employee survey. Of the 90 organizations selected, four were credit unions.
1st Financial Federal Credit Union
In 2013, 1st Financial launched programs designed to serve its communities, as well as enhancing the in-branch experience for both members and employees. Small Business Monthly also recently nominated 1st Financial as one of the “Best Credit Unions in St. Louis”.
“I was excited to hear the credit union was receiving the ‘Top Workplace’ award since we were chosen based upon surveys anonymously submitted by our employees,” said Carol Minges, chief executive officer for 1st Financial. “It means a lot to me that employees appreciate what we do here and feel like it is a great place to work.”
Minges explained that the management had focused on finding ways to make 1st Financial a place where employees feel welcome and engaged in the work they do for the members and community.
“This award is a reflection of the passion our employees exhibit daily,” says Minges. “Their drive is shared from departments across the credit union, culminating in one of the best places to work in St. Louis. I am thankful every day to have the opportunity to work with such an amazing group of people.”
1st Financial employees praised the credit union’s positive working environment, community based initiatives and company morals as reasons for 1st Financial being a top workplace.
“Great people to work with, leadership listens to everyone,” responded one employee.

Anheuser-Busch Employees’ Credit Union (ABECU) is ranked as a "Top 150" credit union in the U.S., and it has been recognized as a leader in the development of interstate delivery of financial services. The credit union, and its division American Eagle Credit Union, has 28 locations nationwide including 12 in the St. Louis metropolitan area.
“We focus intently on ensuring quality service for our members and an outstanding working environment for our employees,” said Dave Osborn, CEO of ABECU. “The dedication of our team accounts for 75 years of continued success. We’re proud to be a top work place and a place where our members—and employees—succeed.”

Another employee wrote that the credit union management ensured a positive work atmosphere.
“It’s a fun, and fair environment,” shared one employee.
First Community has more than 432 employees that work at 32 branches in the metro St. Louis area.
Scott Credit Union
Of the 90 companies recognized as a Best Place to Work in three size categories, Scott Credit Union (SCU) was one of only 15 companies to garner the recognition for three consecutive years.
“It is an honor to receive this recognition three years in a row,” says Frank Padak, SCU CEO and president. “We are very pleased that the steps we have taken to make SCU the best place to work are making a difference with our employees.”
SCU also surveys its employees each year to measure satisfaction and makes improvements based on the results of the surveys. The credit union also has implemented an ideas program that allows employees to give their ideas on how to help the organization meet its mission – Banking Simplified.
“I feel appreciated and recognized for my work ethic,” wrote one SCU employee.
