The Missouri Credit Union Association’s (MCUA) Jefferson City office served as the meeting site for the Missouri House Democrats' Summer Caucus and reception on August 12-13. The two-day event brought a number of Democratic House members and candidates together at Missouri Credit Union House ahead of the September veto session and November general elections.
Several credit union leaders had an opportunity to meet and talk with caucus participants at the Tuesday night reception. House leadership, including Minority Leader Jacob Hummel (pictured below right) (D-District 81) and members of important committees – including the House Financial Institutions Committee - took part in the event.
“Building relationships with lawmakers, sharing credit union concerns and telling our story is crucial for the future of the credit union industry,” says Rick Nichols, president/CEO of River Region Credit Union, who attended the reception. “This brought a large group of candidates and potential candidates together, which enables us to share key points about credit unions with them before the legislative session kicks in.”
Dana Alderman, vice president of member development at River Region Credit Union, Greg Newsom, branch manager at United Credit Union, and David Kent, director of state legislative affairs for MCUA also attended.
"We were really appreciative of MCUA for the use of their facilities," says Hummel. "Our members enjoyed interacting with leaders in the credit union industry and were grateful for the hospitality."
Missouri Credit Union House has served as a meeting location for more than a dozen groups and individuals in 2014, with more scheduled during veto session. Representative Paul Fitzwater (R-District 144), Craig Redmon (R-District 4) and Lyndall Fraker (R-District 137) are scheduled to hold a reception on September 9. Representative Fitzwater is a member of the House Financial Institutions Committee.
Credit union leaders are welcome to participate in this reception, or other receptions taking place September 9 and 10 during veto session. If you would like to attend or have more information, please contact David Kent or Amy McLard.
