On Wednesday, January 25, Richard Orr, retired CEO of Central Missouri Community Credit Union, and Susie Venable, CEO of Saint Luke’s Credit Union, testified before the Missouri Senate Gubernatorial Appointments Committee. Their appointments will now go to the Senate floor. It is expected that the Senate will affirm their appointments on Thursday.

Orr retired from Central Missouri Community Credit Union (Warrensburg) in 2007 after 25 years of service.  Orr served as chief executive officer (CEO) bringing the company from $5 million in assets in 1982 to $50 million in 2007.  He established two new branch offices and oversaw the purchase of land and construction at each location. Orr has affiliations with the Warrensburg Housing Authority, Rotary, the Elks Club and Warrensburg Wheels, of which he is a charter member.

Venable is the president of Saint Luke’s Credit Union (Kansas City) where she started as a teller in 1977. In addition to her work at the credit union, Venable served on multiple boards and credit union groups including the Kansas City Chapter of Credit Unions, Board Member for the Missouri Credit Union Association, Missouri Credit Union Foundation Board, Board Member for the Missouri Corporate Credit Union, Board Member for Members Resources LLC, Board Member for Innovative Technology and Officer of a local Credit Union Service Organization.

Governor Jay Nixon (D) makes appointments to the committee with the advice and consent of the Senate.  The function of the commission is to review regulations proposed by the director of the division of credit unions, hear and determine any appeal from an order or decision by the director pertaining to the chartering, relocation, branching or membership of credit unions and consult with and advise the director on matters pertaining to the organization, operation and supervision of credit unions.

Orr and Venable filled the former seats of Charlie Waalkes and Larry Giesing whose terms had expired.  John Hanneke, a public member of the Commission, also appeared before the committee as a reappointment.  If affirmed, Venable and Orr will serve a six-year term. With the appointments, members of the Credit Union Commission include:

  • Hal James, Missouri Credit Union
  • Richard Orr, retired, Central Missouri Community Credit Union
  • Cathy Stroud, (Chair) Community Financial Credit Union
  • Susie Venable, Saint Luke’s Credit Union
