After raising $100,000 to build a home for triple amputee Marine Corporal Justin McLoud, Missouri credit unions are ready to help break ground. Now that Homes for Our Troops (HFOT) has selected a general contractor to lead the project, the construction schedule is gaining momentum. A special ceremony on June 15 will kick off the HFOT Build Brigade that brings the foundation of the home to a weather-tight structure in just three days. Credit union representatives and community members are invited to attend and volunteer June 15-17 (volunteers must register with HFOT).
The Missouri Credit Union Association (MCUA) teamed up with HFOT, a non-profit organization that builds specially adapted homes for severely injured servicemen and women, to serve as a mission partner for the McLoud project. The home will be built in Festus, Missouri, and enable Cpl McLoud to live independently with his wife Amber and young son Desmond. A Missouri native, Cpl McLoud grew up in Cedar Hill and graduated from Hillsboro High School.
