Governor Jay Nixon Meets with Missouri Credit Unions

At a meeting with Missouri credit union representatives, Governor Jay Nixon (D) recognized the important role credit unions play in Missouri’s economic and financial landscape.

“I appreciate the services that credit unions provide to more than 1.3 million people in Missouri and that there is a robust credit union system in our state that is second to none,” stated Nixon.

Governor Nixon met with dozens of Missouri credit union representatives at Missouri Credit Union House in Jefferson City on July 24.  After his remarks, Nixon welcomed questions from the group. Missouri Credit Union Association President/CEO Mike Beall asked Nixon how credit unions could help grow the economy and business development in the state, and the governor emphasized the importance of credit unions’ financial education efforts.

“Fiscal literacy is important, and teaching people this cannot be overstated,” said Nixon.  “It doesn’t help us create jobs and improve the economy if people get overextended.”

Thirty representatives from the following organizations participated in the meeting:

Anheuser-Busch Employees’ Credit Union
Bothwell Hospital Employees Credit Union
Central Missouri Community Credit Union
CommunityAmerica Credit Union
Conservation Employees Credit Union
Employment Security Credit Union
First Financial Credit Union
First Missouri Credit Union
Mid Missouri Credit Union
Missouri Credit Union
Missouri Credit Union Association
River Region Credit Union
St. Louis Community Credit Union
United Credit Union
United Consumers Credit Union
