Winners Announced at Convention & Expo

The 2012 Convention and Exposition celebrated credit union achievement during an awards breakfast on October 5. Credit unions and individuals were recognized for political advocacy support, career achievements and the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) competition for social responsibility, philosophy in action and youth outreach.

Before he retires early next year, Charlie Waalkes, ABECU senior vice president, was recognized for his many years of service in the credit union movement. Waalkes' career started in 1986 at St. Louis Telephone Credit Union where he nearly doubled the size of the credit union and improved its net worth to more than 11 percent. He came to work at Anheuser-Busch Employees' Credit Union when the two merged in 2005.
