Holy Rosary Credit Union (Kansas City) and St. Therese Little Flower hosted a financial fair directed at the Blue Hills community of Kansas City. The “Right Here, Right Now” fair was designed to equip attendees with the tools and knowledge to begin working on their finances the moment the seminar ended.
The seminar included four different financial topics all aimed at helping the community better understand various facets of their financial lives. The speakers included:
Participants were encouraged to use a “Goal Statement” that related to each topic in order to emphasize the importance of taking action in their financial lives “Right Here, Right Now”. Each attendant was invited to discuss their financial goals with a member service representative from Holy Rosary Credit Union. Free breakfast and lunch was provided with the help of donations from various vendors in Kansas City. Attendees also had the chance to win raffle prizes, including a flat screen TV. Knights of Columbus member Mal Brewer was the proud recipient of this prize.
This program is a small part of a Catholic Campaign for Human Development grant that St. Therese Little Flower had requested. With the support for Holy Rosary Credit Union, St. Therese Little Flower is also engaged in financial education at Hogan Preparatory Academy through the program “Biz Kid$”. Hogan Prep middle school opened a credit union school branch on February 12, 2013. The other portion of the grant is aimed at the senior center housed at St. Therese. Holy Rosary CU staff have conducted “benefit check-ups” and donated time presenting on various financial topics geared toward the senior population. The two organizations see a bright future continuing financial outreach in this community.
