The St. Louis Chapter of Credit Unions hosted a successful consumer seminar, “College Planning 101: Timely Tips for Cost-Effective College Funding” on April 22, 2013. That evening, 126 people attended the seminar with information presented by Melissa Hunt, vice president of client relations and education at Credit Union Student Choice in Washington D.C. The seminar covered many topics including: Preparing for and choosing a college; Understanding the FAFSA process; Work study; Financial aid overview and key terms; Scholarships and grants; and, Student loans (federal and private).
“The response to this seminar was much better than expected. says Laura Alfeldt, vice president of Marketing at First Community Credit Union and chapter officer. "This is clearly a relevant topic for members. With a teenage son myself, I definitely understand why parents want to get ahead of this and be as prepared as possible."
