Vantage Credit Union now offers members with Android phones integration capability to Google Wallet, a free digital wallet that allows people to use their cell phone to pay for goods and services at participating merchants. Vantage is one of only a small number of financial institutions nationwide offered the opportunity to partner with Google and offer card integration capabilities with Google Wallet.
Google Wallet is an Android app that literally makes your smartphone your wallet. It securely stores virtual versions of your Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover credit and debit cards, where you can access them anytime. People who have an NFC-enabled Android phone can use Google Wallet to pay anywhere contactless payments are accepted.
Google Wallet enables people to pay directly from the cards they have loaded into the digital wallet, without the need to present the physical card to the cashier at the time of purchase. Access to the Google Wallet and the cards is protected by a user created PIN. There are currently 200,000 merchants nationwide that accept contactless payments and this number is expected to grow rapidly over the next few years.
“More consumers want access to their money via smartphone, including safe and convenient ways for making payments,” said Eric Acree, interim president/CEO of Vantage Credit Union. “Our integration with Google Wallet demonstrates our commitment to meet this growing demand by offering another safe, mobile payment option to Vantage members who want to take advantage of it.”
