On October 17, 2013, credit unions around the world celebrate International Credit Union Day, an annual event to commemorate the credit union movement’s impact and achievements. In honor of this special day, Rolla Federal Credit Union invited its members and the entire community to an open house at their location (1012 Forum Drive, located in Forum Shopping Center) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with refreshments, games and special loan offers.
“International Credit Union Day is an event our staff and members look forward to every year,” says Scott Shults, president of Rolla Federal Credit Union. “It’s a great opportunity to share what’s happening with the credit union and get feedback from the community.”
Credit unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives that provide an effective and viable alternative to for-profit financial institutions for more than 196 million members at 56,000 credit unions in 101 countries worldwide. They exist to serve their members, providing a safe place to save money and access affordable loans.
Since 1948, International Credit Union Day has been celebrated annually on the third Thursday of October. This year’s theme, “Credit Unions Unite for Good,” emphasizes the benefits of cooperation among credit unions worldwide.
