Anheuser-Busch Employees’ Credit Union (ABECU) and American Eagle Credit Union (AECU) hosted their annual employee Spirit Day on September 27, 2013 at the main office in St. Louis. During the event, the credit union raised more than $1,200 to be donated to an unsuspecting adopted family.
“Spirit Day is a great way to raise employee morale, while simultaneously supporting a good cause,” said Carolyn Allgeyer, benefits specialist and coordinator of the event. “All of the money raised will be donated to a help a family in need through Adopt-A-Family.”
Spirit day is the final event in the credit union’s Employee Appreciation Week and features the opportunity for employees to ‘dress down’ in their favorite team apparel and enjoy lunch prepared by management outside.
In addition to fundraising raffles and games, Spirit Day also features a dunking booth in which elected employees volunteer to allow coworkers to pay for a chance to knock them into the cold water.
“At first I was a little leery about putting myself in the dunk tank, however it was a very nice day and the water temperature turned out to be not as cold as I thought it would be” said ‘dunkee’ Sandy Brannon, Indirect Lending manager. “Although I was dunked several times more than I had hoped for, the money we raised for a family in need made the whole experience worthwhile, and I was happy to participate in the event.”
