Four separate school districts were represented on Thursday, March 20, 2014, as five scholarship winners were announced at the 60th annual meeting of Horizon Credit Union (Macon).
Kay Lucas, president of Horizon Credit Union presented each student with a $500 scholarship to use towards their college expenses. This marks the 16th year that the credit union has given out scholarships. The winners were picked based on the following essay topic: “Describe What Membership in the Horizon Credit Union Means to Me.” Consideration was also given to their GPA, ACT scores and a required letter of recommendation from a teacher or counselor. Essays were graded by Kevin Shaw, director of Office of Small Credit Unions for the Missouri Credit Union Association (St. Louis).
