Electro Savings Credit Union participated in Youth Savings Month by raising funds for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN) in April. The credit union ran account specials with a $5 donation to CMN for each new youth account opened, or each deposit more than $50 in an existing youth account.
“Credit Union Youth Month allows us to pair our education efforts with fundraising for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals of Greater St. Louis,” says Lisa Farnen, Electro Savings vice-president of Marketing. “This year we donated $830. Over the past five years, we’ve donated $4,570 to CMN in April alone.”
In addition to the CMN fundraiser, Electro Savings also encouraged its young members age 13 to 18 to take its “Teens & Money” online financial education module. Each young member who scored greater than 80% on the module’s quiz was entered in a drawing to receive a $50 Visa gift card. Kendra Hefner, who won the gift card, said the module was very interesting.
“I learned that I spend most of my money on very short-term goals and forget about my long-term goal of buying a house when I am older,” says Hefner.
