Earlier this year the National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF) and the Texas Credit Union Foundation (TCUF) piloted a new initiative entitled “Credit Unions Support Financial Education: Leading the Way to Financial Freedom” in partnership with a few other state credit union foundations to raise awareness of financial education and also raise funds for NCUF and the state credit union foundations.
The pilot was a success and the campaign will be broadened for next year, inviting all credit unions and leagues to participate. Member credit unions are encouraged to participate in next year’s campaign taking place in April, which is also National Financial Literacy Month. The early mention will give every one enough time to plan appropriately for a successful campaign.
In order to join in this initiative, credit unions must commit to either (or both) of the following activities to fundraise among staff and members:
“Financially Fit Day” & Fundraising
The campaign will kick off on Wednesday, April 3, “Financially Fit Day”. The idea is that there is one dedicated day for credit unions and their members to become Financially Fit! Credit union staff are also highly encouraged to ask members to support financial education with a monetary contribution. Credit unions can become financially fit by participating in various FUNdraising activities on April 3 or throughout the month. Additional FUNdraising ideas are included in a toolkit at financialeducation.coop, the website created for this initiative. Also included on the website are optional pledge forms and other campaign resources such as sample newsletter articles for credit unions, sticker and wall pin-up templates, a sample flyer and statement stuffer, web buttons, and more.
