From October 15-19, 2012, credit union members around the world celebrated International Credit Union Week. International Credit Union Week has been celebrated in October since 1948.
To exemplify the credit union philosophy of “People Helping People”, Central Missouri Community Credit Union (CMCCU) performed ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ all week. Along with the act of kindness, recipients were given a card asking them to “Pay It Forward”.
During this week, CMCCU delivered donuts, coloring books, pens, and cash envelopes to local hospitals; left quarters at laundry mat, car wash, and in shopping carts; gave a gas card to a good Samaritan; delivered donuts to area police, fire, and sheriff departments; purchased meals and sodas for strangers; delivered gift cards to crossing guards; bought groceries for strangers; gave a fall mum to a parks department; brought trash cans up from the curb; delivered donuts and bananas to bus drivers; treated local veterans to coffee and breakfast; left a book at a coffee shop; delivered breakfast to mail carriers; assisted a stranger who ran out of gas; donated circus tickets to a daycare; delivered vegetable soup to area Ambulance District, Fire Department, and 911 Dispatch; provided hygiene supplies to a Public Administrator; and last, but not least, donated time, money, and supplies to Habitat for Humanity. In demonstrating random acts of kindness, our financial institution was able to portray the image that credit unions represent.
Jessica O’Connell, Member Services, Richmond branch, said, “We care, listen and want the best for people and their families. If for no other reason, we aimed to create a presence in these communities and show families the true purpose of our credit union…People Helping People. There’s no better feeling, than making someone’s day that much brighter.”Photo Caption: (L-R) Judy Jett, VP of Business Development; Susan Stiles, VP of Patient Care Services/CNO at Western Missouri Medical Center; Teresa Collins, Volunteer Services Coordinator at Western Missouri Medical Center; and Melissa Frey, Marketing Specialist
