Vantage Credit Union (Bridgeton) hosted a free shred event/bicycle recycling day at its Bridgeton branch on Saturday, October 20, 2012. With the help of CINTAS and Saint Louis Bicycle Works (who were on-site to retrieve materials), Vantage collected more than 4,100 pounds of paper and 23 old bicycles. The shred day offered members a free and convenient way to safely dispose of sensitive material and private documents. Anything dropped off at Vantage was shredded on-site in a specialized truck (and again back at the CINTAS facility) before being bundled and sent to Georgia Pacific Recycling.
The event marked the end of three days of member perks at the credit union, as Vantage celebrated International Credit Union Day with treats, Member Appreciation Day with giveaways, and the free shred/bicycle recycle event for member convenience.
Saint Louis Bicycle Works partners with others in the community to recycle old materials, often pairing up with shred events and computer recycling in the community. The B Works program offers local kids the opportunity to learn to build and fix the donated bikes while building personal confidence.
