Project Zip Code Reflects Missouri’s Credit Union Strength

Fifty credit unions participated in Missouri’s Project Zip Code Month this past October. But there’s still time to count your credit union members.

Project Zip Code (PZC) is a secure computer program that helps determine how many members credit unions have in state and federal legislative districts. This information demonstrates the size and strength of the credit union movement to lawmakers and makes it less likely lawmakers will pass legislation that negatively affects credit unions.

U.S. Rep. Smith Meets with Credit Unions in Rolla

Sharing credit union concerns about data breaches and demonstrating how credit unions are making a difference for members in District 8 was a top priority during a meeting with U.S. Rep. Jason Smith (R-District 8).

Credit union leaders from Riverways Federal Credit Union and Ozark Federal Credit Union took part in the in-district meeting at Riverways Federal Credit Union in Rolla on October 30.

Missouri Credit Union Leader Testifies Before U.S. Senate Regarding Regulatory Burden

U.S. Senators heard from one of Missouri's credit union leaders about the impact of regulatory burden on small financial institutions this week.  Dennis Pierce, CEO of CommunityAmerica Credit Union (Kansas City) and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Credit Union National Association, testified in front of the U.S. Senate’s Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs on September 16.

Meeting with U.S. House Financial Services Leaders in Missouri

Credit union staff and volunteers met with two members of the House Financial Services Committee on September 2 and 3, during the in-district work period.

U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver (D-District 5) welcomed credit union leaders to his Kansas City office on September 2 to discuss issues and concerns. Ten representatives from five credit unions and the Missouri Credit Union Association took part in the meeting.

McCaskill Sends RBC Proposal Letter to NCUA, Entire Missouri Federal Delegation Weighs In

With a letter from U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill (D), all ten of Missouri’s U.S. Senators and Representatives have now shared concerns about the National Credit Union Administration’s (NCUA) Risk-Based Capital (RBC) proposal.  

Senator McCaskill sent her letter on July 23, pointing out that 79 percent of Missouri credit unions that would be covered by the current proposal would see their capital positions shrink.

Credit union leaders are in Washington D.C. for Missouri Hike the Hill this week.  A full day of visits on Capitol Hill takes place on June 18, with meetings scheduled with all ten Missouri U.S. Senate and House offices.  Participants are also visiting the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) offices for board meeting on June 19.
