Missouri Hike the Hill Comes at Important Time

At a point when tax reform and regulatory relief are being discussed in Congress, the Missouri Credit Union Association (MCUA) is preparing for a Hike the Hill in May.  Credit union leaders from Missouri will head to Washington, D.C. to talk with U.S. Senators and Representatives on May 22-23.

Credit Union Bill Voted Out of Senate Committee

HB 478, a bill modernizing the Missouri Credit Union Statute dealing with joint accounts, took another step forward this week. After credit union representatives made calls to Committee Chairman Jay Wasson (R-District 20) and Senate President Pro Tem Tom Dempsey (R-District 23) urging action, the bill was reported out of the Senate Financial Committee and placed on the Senate calendar during the late night hours on April 29.

Mortgage Compliance Guides Coming Soon

Missouri credit unions will have access to plain language compliance guides and other materials from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) Mortgage Rule Implementation.  Starting the week of April 8, the CFPB will release compliance guides for recently finalized mortgage rules, as well as updates of the official interpretations, examination procedures, and other materials.

MCUA Comments on CFPB Proposal on Ability to Repay

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has already adopted a final rule to implement the ability to repay provisions regarding closed-end mortgage loans under the Dodd-Frank Act. The rule takes effect January 10, 2014. However, the agency is also seeking comments, through today, February 25, on a proposal that would allow some creditors to have more flexibility in complying with the rule.
