Missouri General Assembly Wraps Up First Full Week

The first full week of the Missouri General Assembly wrapped up on January 16.  Lawmakers have filed nearly 800 bills so far.  There are 40 bills with potential impact on credit unions being tracked by the Missouri Credit Union Association’s (MCUA) Advocacy Department.

The Missouri Credit Union Association (MCUA) Credit Union House in Jefferson City served as a gathering place for the Missouri House Democratic Victory Committee (MHDVC) on  November 15.  More than 40 Democratic leaders, candidates, and supporters visited Credit Union House throughout the evening.

State Lawmakers Gear Up for 2013 Veto Session

Legislators from around the state of Missouri are back in the State Capitol this week for the 2013 veto session. It’s scheduled to begin Wednesday, Sept.11. Governor Jay Nixon (D) vetoed a total of 29 bills passed by the Missouri General Assembly, and all 29 bills are expected to come up for a veto override vote. A two-thirds majority is required in both the Missouri House of Representatives and Missouri Senate to override the Governor’s veto.

Credit Union Leaders Attend Inaugural Events in Jefferson City

Representatives from Missouri credit unions and the Missouri Credit Union Association (MCUA) were in Jefferson City to attend the inaugural events held January 13-14.  During the two-day event, credit union leaders met with lawmakers and other distinguished guests, including State Treasurer Clint Zweifel (D) who held an inauguration reception Sunday evening.

Newly elected State Representative Caleb Rowden (R-District 44) met with David Kent of the Missouri Credit Union Association in downtown Columbia on Wednesday, November 21. The two discussed the upcoming 97th General Assembly as well as issues important to both District 44 and the Representative.
