Missouri General Assembly Wraps Up First Full Week

The first full week of the Missouri General Assembly wrapped up on January 16.  Lawmakers have filed nearly 800 bills so far.  There are 40 bills with potential impact on credit unions being tracked by the Missouri Credit Union Association’s (MCUA) Advocacy Department.

Advocating for credit unions and members in the state and federal legislatures is vital to credit unions’ future. The Missouri Credit Union Association (MCUA) needs credit union staff, volunteers and members to take action in advocacy efforts—people who are committed to the belief that credit unions are key players in the financial services industry; who understand that even small changes in the political environment can make or break a credit union’s bottom line; who are willing to take action to influence the decisions made by their state and federal elected officials.

The Missouri Credit Union Association hosted a fundraiser on behalf of State Representatives Sheila Solon (R-District 31), Marsha Haefner (R-District 95), Diane Franklin (R-123), and Kathie Conway (R-104) on Wednesday, March 27. More than 40 friends and supporters visited Credit Union House, located in Jefferson City, throughout the evening.

Credit Union Leaders Attend Inaugural Events in Jefferson City

Representatives from Missouri credit unions and the Missouri Credit Union Association (MCUA) were in Jefferson City to attend the inaugural events held January 13-14.  During the two-day event, credit union leaders met with lawmakers and other distinguished guests, including State Treasurer Clint Zweifel (D) who held an inauguration reception Sunday evening.

ATM Disclosure Bill Signed by the President

The ATM disclosure bill, H.R. 4367, was signed into law by President Obama on Thursday, December 20.  The bill eliminates the requirement that ATMs display duplicative signs disclosing fees, a requirement that has created legal and financial issues for some credit unions and other financial institutions.  The bill preserves consumer notification of fees through an on-screen notice.
