Missouri Feedback on Data Breach Surveys

Credit unions in Missouri are sharing the impact of data breaches in the Show-Me State by participating in the Target and Schnucks surveys.  But more feedback is needed from Missouri's credit unions.

So far, 34 credit unions in Missouri have completed the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) Target survey. As of January 17, there were 936 responses from credit unions nationwide. Take the survey here.

Sen. Blunt Introduces "Data Security Act"

Missouri U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (R) is the lead Republican sponsor for a data security bill that would help protect consumers from identity theft and account fraud. It would also establish consistent rules of the road nationally for public and private institutions to follow to prevent and respond to data breaches.

Blunt introduced the “Data Security Act of 2014” together with U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Delaware) on January 15.

MO Participation Needed in Data Breach Surveys

Credit unions in Missouri are asked to participate in two data breach surveys. One is a national survey through the Credit Union National Association to track the impact of the massive Target data breach during the 2013 holiday season. The other is a survey to assess the final impact of the Schnucks data breach, which had a substantial impact on many credit unions in Missouri.

Missouri General Assembly Wraps Up First Full Week

The first full week of the Missouri General Assembly wrapped up on January 16.  Lawmakers have filed nearly 800 bills so far.  There are 40 bills with potential impact on credit unions being tracked by the Missouri Credit Union Association’s (MCUA) Advocacy Department.

Missouri Federal Lawmakers Address Target Breach

Members of the Missouri Congressional delegation are calling for action following the Target Corporation data breach. 

Missouri U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill (D), together with U.S. Senator John D. Rockefeller IV (D), sent a letter to Target requesting a briefing from the company’s information-security officials regarding the data breach during the 2013 holiday shopping season.
