The November election is just a few weeks away, but there’s still time for credit unions to make an impact.  The Missouri Credit Union Association has scheduled advocacy training sessions across the state that is designed for all credit union leaders - both trained and new Advocacy Corps members.

Lawmakers Attend St. Louis Chapter Reception

Nearly 20 lawmakers and candidates spent time with credit union representatives during the St. Louis Chapter Legislative Reception on September 27 at Ameristar Casino. The annual event helps credit unions connect with legislators in an informal setting. During the reception, a slideshow highlighted interesting facts about credit unions in Missouri including community involvement, fundraising and social outreach.

CFPB Hears From Missouri Leaders Prior to Inaugural Session

A select group of Missouri credit union representatives had a rare opportunity to sit down with key leaders from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) on September 26 - one day prior to the CFPB's consumer advisory board inaugural meeting being held in St. Louis.  

Credit union leaders explained how regulations being promulgated quickly through the system require additional staffing and increased costs to the consumer.

Absentee Ballots and Voter Registration Deadlines for November 6 Election

While the General Election is six weeks away, voting has already begun.  Absentee voting starts on Tuesday, September 25.  Registered voters who will not be able to make it to their polling place on November 6 may vote absentee six weeks in advance of the election. The last day to vote absentee in person is Monday, November 5.

October is Project Zip Code Month for Missouri Credit Unions

The Missouri Credit Union Association (MCUA) is asking credit unions to run Project Zip Code (PZC) version 12.0 in October.  Credit union participation is essential to accurately reflect the number of credit union members in each legislative district across the state.  Missouri lost a Congressional seat in 2012.  All of the districts were redrawn on the federal and state level.  Credit unions that have not run version 11.0 or 12.0 are not reflected in the new district PZC results

October Meetings with Missouri U.S. House Financial Services Committee Members Clay and Cleaver

Credit unions representatives can meet with Missouri members of the U.S. House of Representatives Financial Services Committee this October.  An in-district meeting is scheduled with U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver  (D-District 5) in Kansas City on October 9, followed by a meeting in St. Louis with U.S. Rep. William Lacy Clay (D-District 1) on October 11.  Both serve on the Financial Services Committee, which handles legislation affecting credit unions.
