Payday Lending Ballot Initiative Moves on to Signature Verification

The Missouri Credit Union Association (MCUA) has been watching the 2012 ballot initiative process for two reasons: the potential to support consumer friendly provisions in the payday lending ballot initiative (capping interest rates at 36%) as well as whether the process could serve as a future vehicle for credit union legislation in Missouri.

BluCurrent Credit Union

In 1929, BluCurrent Credit Union opened their doors to service a handful of postal employees under the name of Springfield Postal Employees Credit Union. Over the years, they have grown from that handful of employees to more than 18,000 members.

Anheuser-Busch Employees’ Credit Union

Anheuser-Busch Employees’ Credit Union (ABECU) was founded in February 1939, near the end of the Depression, and started with eight members and $55 in assets. After two years, the credit union had 700 members and $37,000 in assets.  Today, ABECU serves 114,000 members and has $1.3 billion in assets.

At the Capitol: Lawmakers Meet with Credit Unions

Friday, May 4, 2012 – This week the House and Senate played a game of stalemate with various bills moving through the legislature. The only significant progress was made on appropriations bills which carry a statutory deadline for passage of May 11. As is not unusual, the majority of legislative action will take place during the last two weeks of session that ends on May 18.

NCUA "Listening Session" in Missouri June 5

National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Chairman Debbie Matz is coming to Missouri to hold a listening session with credit unions.  It is an opportunity for credit union leaders to hear from Matz directly and ask questions.  The event takes place in St. Louis on June 5 and is free, but limited to 150 people.  The St. Louis meeting is one of six listening sessions taking place across the country.
