At The Capitol: Budget Goes to Conference Committee


Friday, April 27, 2012 – While most were predicting a long week of late nights and fireworks on the Senate floor, most were shocked at the ease with which the budget passed. The difference between the Senate and House budgets is approximately $80 million.

Supercommittee Update



The Congressional “Supercommittee,” was tasked by Congress to produce legislation to reduce the deficit by $1.2 trillion within the next ten years. The first deadline was November 23. On November 21, leadership of the bipartisan Special Joint Committee announced that it would not be able to reach an agreement on such a measure.

NCUA Virtual Town Hall



NCUA staff held a virtual town hall meeting last week to provide an update on the agency’s activities and answer questions from participants.

Here are a few highlights from the webinar:

  • NCUA budget: The Board will approve the 2012 budget on November 17, which is expected to be a “single digit increase.” Chairman Matz stated that NCUA’s recent budget increases, which allow the agency to utilize a 12-month exam cycle and examine all credit unions of at least $250 million, likely saved federally insured credit unions $1.5 billion.
