Impact of Dodd-Frank on Safety and the Soundness of MBLs

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) issued a report on September 13, 2012, on the impact of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act on Credit Unions and Community Banks. The report basically concludes that it is too early to tell what the total impact of the Act’s provisions on credit unions and community banks will be.

Lawmakers are back in Missouri for the spring recess through April 16.  If there’s a chance to meet with U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill (D) or U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt (R) and make the case for credit unions and S. 2231, the Credit Union Small Business Jobs Bill, credit union leaders are urged to do so.

JOBS Act Becomes Law: Tell Senators “Now It’s Time to Help Main Street”

President Obama signed the Jumpstart Our Business Startups (JOBS) Act on April 5.  The new law includes language that helps the banks, including a provision that raised the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) registration threshold for banks.   The Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) is touting this as a legislative win, which allows more banks to change their tax status to Subchapter S and reduces their regulatory requirements.
